My name is Ben Gerald Jackson. Im 19 years old. I live in Germany with my family. The one in the photo are pictures of my cousins. I was 18 when i was drafted into this horrible war. I lost a lot of my buddies. Heres a picture of one of my best friends who had died, his name was eddie. I have a wife.jpg who is 6 months pregnant. I think that my country is going to win this war we have competed for one of the strongest navy.
Why Germany went to war :
Germany joined the war because they made an alliance with Austria-Hungary. Germany and France almost went to war over the control of Morocco, which is in Africa. An alliance is when there is a formal agreement between two or more nations or powers to cooperate and come to one another’s defense. Britain and Germany competed for the strongest navy.Austria – Hungary declared war on Serbia because of Archduke death. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia because Serbia did not meet the demands Austria had set out. Austria-Hungary asked for Germanys help in the war.
The assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand :
Archduke Francis Ferdinand was from Austria-Hungary. He was going to visit Sarajevo which was in Serbia. Many Serbs and Slavs had lived there. When the archduke announced he was going to Serbia the Serbs and Slavs were very upset. They viewed the Austrians as posers. A group called the “Black Hand” set up a plan and killed the Archduke and his wife. After the assassination Austria sent Serbia a set of demands. When Serbia did not meet all the demands that Austria had wanted, Austria declared war on Serbia. Austria and Germany had an alliance together so of course when Austria declared war on Serbia, Germany gave full support to help out Austria. Serbia asked help from Russia. Germany then declared war on Russia. Then Russia asked France to help and France gave them full support. Germany declared war on France for “butting in”. Italy gave support to Germany.
January 14th, 1917
Its getting a lot harder. Once I was up for 48 hours straight. I was constanly on the look out with me and a few buddies. I have been missing my family alot. I dont think I will be able to be with my wife to deliver the baby. It really hurts me. Hopefully I get the chance to though. I have been writing to her every chance I can get. At night it gets so cold. Theres always rats running around. Its really nasty out here. I just want to be home with my wife again. In my nice warm bed, instead of this little cot I have.
Battle plan for defeating the war :
A battle plan that Germany can use to win the war was rifles. They were difficult to carry but were a great defensive weapon. The rifles could fire 400-600 small-caliber rounds per minute. Other men can also use grenades. They were good to use because you can launch them farther and they only weighted 8 lbs. They also did not over heat or anything. If the rifles had overheated you sometimes would have to pee on them to cool them off. Another good tactic that my country is planning on using is the submarine. They were 315 feet long with two cargo compartments. They were armed with self-propelled torpedoes for attacking enemy ships.
German was upset over the L'Entente Cordiale agreement of 1904. The propaganda poster uses the techniques Unifying the nation behind the war effort and Emotional symbols.
How Russia's exit and the USA's entry into the wear affected Germany :
Since Russia was out of the war Germany could concentrate its forces on the Western Front. In 1915 a German submarine attacks on merchant and passenger ships carrying American citizens. These ships were transporting supplies to the Allies. Since the United States of America was a neutral country, they had a right ot safe travel over the seas. When the German submarine torpedoed the Lusitania ship 1,200 passengers were killed. 128 Americans were killed. Germans attacked the ship because they thougth the ship had weapons on it. The United States was very angry and declared war on Germany. This affected Germany because Americans were good fighters.
December 25th, 1918
Well my Wife already had her baby. The bad news was that I did not get to come home to help her out. I'm starting to feel depressed because I wasn't there for my wife when I have promised her I would be. I dont know how I am suppose to make it up to her. But luckly I got sent home on Christmas Eve I got to see my son Chase Leom Jackson. Hes a healthy baby. I had tears in my eyes when I first saw my wife and child. Unfortanly I have to leave to go back to this ugly war in 2 days. My mom is very sick she has been in the hospital for a couple of days now. I went to see her today she did not look to well. My dad as always was working on the farm. Hes always been hard headed and a good worker. Other men did not get to come home for the holidays. Some of them will come home on New years Eve though. After I leave to go to the war again I wont be able to come back home for Four months. Its getting so hard on me. I could not image what kind of pain I'm putting my wife in. I know its hard for her to raise a baby on her own. Oh god, please help her. Please let this nightmare end.
Germanys reaction to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles :
Germany had no choice but to sign the Treaty of Versailles, they were ordered to sign the treaty. The treaty was what ended the war. These were the affectes that the treaty had on Germnay;
Germany was forced to take full blame for causing the war.
Germany had to pay war damages that were at very high price.
Germany not only had to pay for the destruction of land, but they also had to pensions to the wives and families of the soldiers that were killed in the war.
The size of the German's military would be limited.
Germany had to return Alsace and Lorrain to France.
Stripped Germany of its overseas colonies.
Germany was able to recover though.

Yay! the war has finally ended I'm so relieved! Its seems like the war was never going to end. Lots of men have died and my thoughts and prayers are with them. I cant wait to be in the arms of my wife and son!

Its Thanksgiving and I'm so thankful to be with my wonderful family. My mom is out of the hospital and is doing every good. When I arrrived home everyone was outside greeting me. Ive never been so honored in my life. The only problem that I have is that i have to go to therpy. I have been drinking way more than I should. In the middle of the night i have these terriable nightmares about women and they childern being killed. I wake up crying and shaking and my wife is always asking me whats wrong. I can't tell her how I feel and what I have been through. They are way too deep of feeling for her to understand. Some of my men could not take their pain and killed themselves. The war affected all of our lives so much. I dont think everyone would ever be the same person again.
